When the HTC One has been holding the title to the best “all-rounded” smartphone, ASUS now has a new and fresh contender to the throne in the PadFone Infinity. We pit them head to head against one another to find out which will emerge victorious.
Both smartphones are rather similar in more ways, with both packing a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor clocked at 1.7GHz aided by a Adreno 320 GPU and 2GB of RAM, 1080p Full-HD touchscreen, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/ac/b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0. While both phones get in 32GB and 64GB storage options, do not expect the full 32/64GB to be available as the storage space listed is the total storage space including the OS and preloaded apps.
What is different then? Well, ASUS has gone for the traditional route for high-end smartphones. A 5-inch (441ppi) screen flanks the ASUS PadFone Infinity, dwarfing the HTC One’s 4.7-inch (469ppi) screen. It also features a 13MP sensor for the back camera, giving it an edge over the HTC One’s 4MP sensor in terms of Megapixel count . Interestingly though, the front camera is only a 2.0MP sensor which is slightly behind the HTC One’s 2.1MP and far behind the current wave of Chinese smartphones that pack a 5MP (And sometimes 8MP) sensor.
The ASUS PadFone Infinity runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, much newer and modern than the HTC One’s Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean (HTC has released the Android 4.2 update for the HTC One in selected countries but it has all the same to be available on my unit as of writing). Lastly, the ASUS PadFone Infinity can be docked in the ASUS PadFone Station and transform into a full-sized tablet with a generous 10.1-inch 1920×1200 (224ppi) screen.
